Following a naming convention similar to Windows, Microsoft has released the first Insider build for Visual Studio 2026.

The latest update to Visual Studio Code includes a number of new features and improvements for GitHub Copilot AI, including inline chat in the terminal.

The Visual Studio Code product itself ships under a standard Microsoft product license, as it has a small percentage of Microsoft-specific customizations. It’s free despite the commercial license.
