Subaru's WRX 2.0-liter boxer EJ20 is an iconic engine that many gearheads seek due to its power capabilities, but it does have flaws that should be noted.

Hot off the heels of the Subaru WRX TR is the new tS, which is basically the same car with a digital gauge cluster and STI-tuned electronic dampers.

Subaru has revealed an STI variant of the current WRX, called the S210 Prototype. It will only be sold in Japan, uses an automatic transmission, and makes less power than the last WRX STI.

It may not be the STI hatchback we'd all love to see, but dang it, Subaru's basically fixed everything I didn't like about the WRX, and all it took was an extra $10,000 in performance-focused goodies.

Subaru does build the WRX in its current 271-hp form, and there's a tS model with big Brembo brakes and Recaro seats, but we're still waiting for a proper STI variant.
