The Adafruit team have this week announced the release of CircuitPython 8.0.0, the latest major revision of CircuitPython, and is a new stable release.

They also still consider CircuitPython to be downstream from MicroPython, that is, the intention is to eventually integrate new features and capabilities added to MicroPython into CircuitPython.
